RPG Tactician: Origins · How to Use the App
This manual covers both halves of the app: building a character in the Creator, then playing them in the Tracker. Everything below reflects how the app behaves offline, on your device — there's no setup beyond opening it.
Open the app and choose New Character from the roster screen. There's nothing to sign into and nothing to configure first — the Creator starts immediately. You can hold up to three characters at once; delete one from the roster to make room for another.
The Creator asks for one decision per screen, in this order, and calculates every derived number — hit points, saving throws, spell save DC, attack bonuses — as you go: Class (one of 12 SRD classes, each with its one available subclass), Background (Acolyte, Criminal, Sage, or Soldier, ranked by fit), Species (9 SRD species, with traits like Darkvision applied automatically), Languages, Ability scores (modifiers and bonuses update live), Alignment (a roleplay detail, not a rules mechanic), and Details — finishing this step creates the character and opens the Tracker.
The Tracker is a dark, tactile play sheet organized into five tabs along the bottom: Vitals (hit points, hit dice, experience, ability scores — drag the hit point bar or tap the arrows, set status conditions and exhaustion), Inventory (weight, coin, and gear — tap +/− to adjust quantities, tap the trash icon to remove an item, tap the circle to mark a weapon equipped), Attacks & Spells (weapons with bonuses and damage already calculated; known and prepared spells shown as pips — tap to spend a slot, hold the row to restore all after a long rest), and Details (alignment, languages, proficiencies, and personal notes). Every tap and drag is backed by haptic feedback.
Add experience from the Vitals tab as your character earns it. Once you cross a level threshold, the app walks you through what that level adds — new hit points, features, spell slots, or resources — the same way the Creator handles a brand-new character, one decision at a time.
Open the Compendium from anywhere in the app to browse or search all 16 categories of SRD 5.2.1 content — classes, species, spells, feats, equipment, conditions, and a Rules Glossary for terms of art. Every entry is written in plain language in both English and Spanish.
The roster screen lists all of your characters — up to three at a time. Tap one to open its Tracker, swipe to delete it, or start a new one from the same screen. Deleting a character removes it immediately; there's no undo, since nothing is backed up anywhere else.
English and Spanish are both built in. Switch between them at any time from the character screen — the change applies immediately to every rule, spell, and compendium entry, not just the interface.
